Speaking Of Boxelders...

Oh my God, what a coincidence! In my previous entry today, I was telling you about some home movies I've made, with "Billy The Boxelder" one of them I listed, and then guess what? A boxelder landed on my Endorphin Shirt (rainbow tie-dye with a big yellow smiley-face smack dab in the center) out of nowhere as I was walking to KBOO at noon today down 21st Avenue, right before I got to the I-84 bridge. (giggles)

The origin of the show "Billy The Boxelder" was absolutely random! LOL! I guess my fascination for boxelders originated when I used to hike Hanging Lake near Glenwood Springs back home in Colorado, and right near the entrance to the upward trail that leads up to the gorgeous lake, there is a lot of foliage that attracts thousands of these little wayfarers! LOL! I was just blown away by the numbers, the invasion of the boxelders, and every time I look back on the sight, it tickles me pink! (giggles) So when I saw a boxelder outside my screen door back in Colorado, I was looking for inspiration and just decided to make a show featuring the little bug (don't worry, I cwas 100% gentle to the boxelder! :) ) and it all came together at the spur of the moment, it was all random.

Even the theme song lyrics came out at random. Here they are! :)

LOL! I didn't start playing guitar until about three years after the lyrics were composed, but once I began playing, I even made a real song from the lyrics! (giggles) Once I get the technology to get my music onto the computer and into MP3 format, I will certainly give you the audio file to download for your very own, yay!

The very first episode of Billy The Boxelder was filmed just a few days before the first episode of Justice Offbeats in March of 1999. It was completely nonsensical, with no story or plot whatsoever, but I always love watching the video over and over again because of memorable catchphrases that came from it. I held the boxelder gently on my finger and I'd say, "Let's take a mystical journey, whooooooosh!" and run around with the boxelder, and right before the end of the episode, I'd say, "You are free to go, thank you..." and when the boxelder wouldn't fly away, I'd say "Come on, man, I didn't pay you a cab drive for nothin', so c'mon there, you must go!" and then in a squeaky little voice, I'd make Billy say, "But I don't want to leave, Daddy!" with the sad "Whrrr whrrr whrrrrrrr!" sound after it, and that was the end of the episode, LOL! (does boxelder bee-bop)

I only made one other episode of Billy The Boxelder where he was standing on a barbell, where he was trying to lift the weight and couldn't do it at all because of his small size, and in his squeaky voice I go, "Hey Mr. Guy, I can't lift this up, what am I doing wrong?" and then in my regular voice as Mr. Guy I go, "That's because you are a little boxelder, you must understand the responsibilities of being a lil' mere boxelder!" and from there the episode went completely random! LOL!

(giggles) Those boxelders are indeed lil' rascals! They are absolutely harmless, but mischievious indeed, LOL! In the spring, after emerging from winter sites, adult females deposit small, red, oval eggs on trees and shrubs, including boxelder, ash, maple or elm seeds near houses. Bright red nymphs hatch from eggs every 10 to 14 days, sucking on plant sap until mid-summer when they mature into adults. These adults lay eggs for a second generation, where after maturing, second generation adults seek winter homes. Activity continues well beyond frost as insects sun themselves on vertical walls on warm fall afternoons. And when the autumn comes around and they search for winter hiding places, they love congregating in the sunshine on the south sides of buildings, straying into houses through cracks and gaps along windows and doors into your house. And when they are warmed by heat from the furnace or the sun, you bet they'll become active during the winter and crawl throughout your house! (giggles)

Yay, there's a little nature lesson for y'all today! :) So remember, if you see a lil' boxelder crawling around your house this winter, all he/she needs is a lil' mystical journey endorphin flight, yay! :) The boxelder you may meet may very well be Billy himself, yay! :) Maybe he has a new family of a size a little something like this...

Dun-dun-dunnnnnnnn! Ahhhhhhhhh! LOL! No, no, that's alright, it'll all be okay, I certainly would always love their winter company anyway, yay! (does love bug waggle) :)

Love,
Noah Eaton
